According to 19th-century Colombian novelist Jorge Isaacs (1837-1895), the bambuco is a creolized version of an African dance taken to Colombia by slaves, from the region of Bambouk, an area between Senegal and Mali. The primo and secondo parts should be thought of as independent. Meanwhile, the thinking adopted throughout should be of three counts per measure, with a slight accent on the first beat in the bass line. When performing bambucos, keep in mind that the rhythmic structure always relies on the secondo part, as it is the section where bass, harmonies and rhythm converge to create the dance. In turn, the melodies can be presented as four-measure statements.
19世紀のコロンビアの小説家ホルヘ・イサークス(1837-1895)によると、バンブコは、おそらくセネガルとマリ西部の間の地域であるバンブクからの黒人奴隷によって、コロンビアに持ち込まれたダンスが普及した事に始まります。コロンビア風にアレンジされていく中で、バンブコはスペインの曲に似た旋律のラインを取り入れながら、ヨーロッパのサロン音楽にはないリズムの複雑さを維持しています。バンブコを演奏する際には、常にセコンドパートのリズム構造が大事な存在になっていることを念頭に置いてください。なぜなら、セコンドパートは、ベース、ハーモニー、リズムが絡み合って踊りを生み出すセクションだからです。メロディは4小節をワンフレーズにとるとよいでしょう。
